Ohio Auctioneers Gather for Annual Conference

Auctioneers from across the state convened this past weekend for the Ohio Auctioneers Association (OAA) annual conference.  The conference was held this year at the Columbus Airport Marriott in Columbus, Ohio, January 12-14.

Highlights of this year’s conference included the, annual Trade Show with over a dozen industry vendors, the Ohio Auctioneers Championship, Auction Marketing Awards, Hall of Fame Inductions, a Children’s Auction, the Presidential Luncheon and the election of the Board of Directors.

Throughout the weekend, Auctioneers were presented with dynamic and engaging educational seminars from industry leading Auctioneers and presenters sponsored by the Ohio Auctioneers Commission/Department of Agriculture. This year the OAA was honored to have Mike Jones, Sara Rose Bytnar, Dustin Rogers, Christie King, and John Schultz.  With Maurice Clarett as the Keynote Speaker.

Eli Troyer of Beach City was crowned the 2018 Ohio Auctioneers Senior Division Champion with Grant Nicodemus of New Carlisle, crowned the Junior Champion- in a competition that featured forty-two Auctioneers vying for the coveted title. 

The highest award conveyed to an Auctioneer in Ohio is an induction into the Ohio Auctioneer’s Hall of Fame. Bill Stepp of Ashland, OH was inducted into this year’s Hall of Fame class. 

The OAA held their annual election of officers at the annual membership business meeting, electing Darren Bok of Hicksville- President, Laura Mantle of Columbus – Vice-President, Jerry Hall of Warren – Treasurer, Eli Troyer of Beach City – Director at Large, and Stephen Hummel of Chillicothe – Southeast Director.  Remaining board members include: Karen Huelsman, Wade Baer, Robert Carpenter, Buddy Barton and immediate Past President Scott Mihalic.

The 2019 Conference will be held at the Hilton in Easton, Ohio January 4-6, 2019.
